Medcenter One Amber’s Dream nearly complete

Amber’s Dream is coming true.

Amber's Dream, St. Baldrick's

Randi Schaeffer, nurse manager at the Medcenter One Children’s Hospital, shows the intricacies of the kids’ portal games in the pirate ship nurses’ station in the newly renovated children’s wing of the hospital.

The Amber’s Dream project began as an idea years ago by one of Medcenter One‘s patients, Amber Des Roches, who battled cancer and lost her battle in 2007.

She dreamed of a children’s hospital where kids could be kids.

In 2009, through Basin Electric’s St. Baldrick’s Day and the lead donation of $80,000 by Basin Electric, Capital Electric, KEM Electric, Mor-Gran-Sou Electric, Roughrider Electric and Slope Electric cooperatives for the playroom, the transformation began.

The theme of the project is Neverland and the essence of the adventure.

This spring, the entire project will be complete. The project is a tribute to Amber and her vision to help all children who are hospitalized find a way to escape the realities of their illness.

Watch the video to see more of the work.

Last year, we talked to one of Amber’s doctors, who has also received money from the St. Baldrick’s Foundation. Watch the video.
