A recent Instagram post that caught our eye led to an interesting story about a former Basin Electric employee.

Kate Kruse, who lives in Minneapolis, Minnesota, posted a photo on Instagram of her mother, Greta Weisser, from Basin Electric’s 1979 Annual Report.

At the time, Weisser, then Greta Johnson, was a senior financial analyst for Basin Electric who supervised the cooperative’s cash management system and the investment of funds related to the construction of Antelope Valley Station.

The caption in the 1979 report included with the photo read: “One member of Basin Electric’s financial management team is Greta Johnson, senior financial analyst, who supervises the cooperative’s cash management system and the investment of fund from pollution control bond issues. To accommodate the increasing volume of cash management activities, she has been designing computer specifications for automating the management process.”

Kate included the below caption in her Instagram post:

“So when I was busy giving my mom crap because she can’t bake a decent cookie… turns out she was busy designing computer programs before desktop computers were even a thing. She never gave me crap about how my financial forecasting/analysis and programming skills are lacking.”

Stay tuned to Live Wire to learn about Weisser’s story of persistence to get her foot in the door at Basin Electric, and her financial work during a time of construction at the cooperative.
