On April 19, Basin Electric employee volunteers packed 8,500 pounds of food into 1,072 backpacks to deliver to 33 schools across Bismarck and Mandan, North Dakota.

The backpack program is run by Missouri Slope Areawide United Way. The food goes to kids who rely on school meals throughout the week, but then when the weekend comes, often don’t have enough to eat.

Amber Ruzicka, MSA United Way operations manager, says getting support from Basin Electric for programs like this is critical. “It’s not just giving, it’s volunteering of your time,” she says.
