Basin Electric employees get reimbursed to run #NationalRunningDay

This National Running Day, we highlight one of the most recent additions to our benefits. The Race Reimbursement Policy means all employees can be reimbursed for completing an organized race or similar competition that is within Basin Electric’s service area, or that of one of our members. It’s just one of the ways we strive to be an employer of choice.

The limit is up to $300 or three races, whichever comes first, per calendar year. Employees even get a Basin Electric “BE Well” t-shirt to wear during the race if they so choose.

It’s a way to help employees be active and also help support events in our communities. Below, meet some employees who have taken advantage of the benefit. We asked them to show us one of their favorite races.

National Running Day: Angela Dockter

Angela Dockter, purchasing agent I
Which race: 5k run
When: May 2015
Support: Proceeds went to Central Dakota Humane Society – Race for Rescues
Memories: I was able to get my dad and my sister to run this race with me. It was a great feeling to cross the finish line hand and hand with my dad, as we used to run together quite a bit when I was growing up.

National Running Day: Levi Kom

Levi Kom, senior business system analyst
Which race: Kroll’s Marathon, half
When: 2015
Support: Since Basin Electric has added this benefit, I have gone from being an occasional running hobbyist to a regular. I have graduated from 5k -> 10k -> 10 Mile -> ½ Marathon (13.1 Miles) -> even a Marathon (26.2 Miles… what is wrong with people honestly :)) -> and Obstacle/Mud/Snow Runs on top of it.
Memories: Many of the runs support great causes and the program is a fantastic way to promote a healthy life style. I know the folks I do the races with are in awe of the fact that Basin will pay my way as a wellness benefit.

National Running Day: Jackie Fleck

Jackie Fleck, associate contract administrator

Memories: It was my first Marathon and it was just over a year ago when I had a serious injury that took me out of running for six weeks.
