Basin Electric brings light to the Clay County Sheriff Department

Michael Hessman, Basin Electric operations maintenance coordinator at Spirit Mound Station, presents the check to Deputy Sheriff David Kyte, Clay County (SD).

A donation made to the Clay County (SD) Sheriff’s Department will help officers see more clearly in the line of duty.

Basin Electric accepted the request to fund Streamlight Stinger LED flashlights. “Because the majority of our territory is rural, sources of unnatural light is scarce,” says David Kyte, deputy sheriff. “Our deputies rely on flashlights frequently. In addition to using them in searches, we also use them to signal traffic, and signal other officers or emergency responders.”

Basin Electric’s Spirit Mound Station, a peaking plant near Vermillion, SD, is located in the jurisdiction of the Clay County Sheriff’s Department. The donation will buy eight flashlights and holsters. “It’s our responsibility to provide the employees and property with high quality law enforcement through routine patrols and criminal investigations,” Kyte says. “If an incident were to occur at Spirit Mound Station, deputies may need to use the flashlights.”
