Serving the community is a value that both Basin Electric and the Bismarck Police Department hold dear, and these two organizations have been supporting the community by supporting each other, for years.
Basin Electric is a proud sponsor of the “We Support the Badge” campaign, which began last year as an effort to build stronger relationships between law enforcement officers in Bismarck and Mandan and Burleigh and Morton counties. The campaign also hopes to recruit more youth into jobs within law enforcement in these communities.
Local law enforcement has also given their support of Basin Electric, especially its community events, namely the Brave the Shave campaign. In fact, this year will be the fifth annual “Guns ‘n Hoses” event, a fundraising effort where local police officers (guns) face off against area firefighters (hoses) to see who can raise the most money to fight childhood cancer by shaving their heads.
“We do it for the kids,” says Bismarck Police Chief Dan Donlin of why he and other police officers participate in the event. “These families have to live with some very difficult circumstances every day, and if we can take time out of one day to support and benefit them, we will. It’s so important.”
Donlin says the friendly competition with the fire departments is a close second as to why he participates in the Guns ‘n Hoses event. “Anytime I get to compete against the fire department and show that cops are better, I’m there,” he laughs.
