There is Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday.

In the midst of the “buying” this holiday season, Giving Tuesday, Nov. 29, is here to encourage a little giving.

Giving Tuesday, the first Tuesday after each Thanksgiving, was created to celebrate and encourage giving. In its fifth year, the movement harnesses the power of social media and generosity of people to bring about real change in our communities.

This Giving Tuesday, consider a contribution to the Brave the Shave Family Fund.

Brave the Shave supports more than 60 families throughout the region who are currently battling or have battled childhood cancer. The Brave the Shave Family Fund was created to be a beacon of hope for these children and their families throughout the year.

“There’s nothing like getting together,” Brave the Shave Family Representative Taner Ohlsen says of the art class.

“Because of everybody’s home life situation, being able to do these things doesn’t happen very often. It’s a soothing thing; it emotionally makes you feel not alone,” he says. “I see the kids with smiles on their faces and the families talking – it’s a great thing.”

Consider a donation to the Family Fund as part of Giving Tuesday on Nov. 29, and going forward. Because the gift of hope makes a wonderful gift, no matter the season.

(P.S. Share news of your donation on social media, using the hashtags “#BTSfamilyfund” and “#givingtuesday“!)
