Addressing community hunger the cooperative way

Many Basin Electric employees, some shown here, are taking part in Basin Electric’s “Casual for a Cause” program. Employees can donate to the program to wear jeans from Memorial Day through Labor Day this year. Funds collected will be split between the Great Plains Food Bank and the Backpacks for Kids programs.

At or near the top of many Basin Electric employees’ list of reasons why it’s great to work for a cooperative, is concern for community.

Basin Electric works to improve the quality of life for its members. One way it does that is through work to address hunger in its communities.

This summer, Basin Electric employees are signing up to serve free lunch to local youth and adults as part of United Way’s Free Summer Lunch at the Park in Bismarck, ND, and Mandan, ND.

That effort is in addition to Basin’s Backyard Garden and the cooperative’s Feeding Our Future food drive, which has resulted in thousands of pounds of food being delivered those in need within the community.
