Two scenarios. Choose one:
- Your doctor decides getting an MRI is necessary. The hospital doesn’t have an MRI machine on site. They do have a portable MRI scanner, which makes a stop at the hospital every Monday. The scanner is located in a truck which parks outside the hospital. Since this is urgent, you get in your car and drive two hours to the nearest hospital with an MRI to be scanned.
- Your doctor decides getting an MRI is necessary. You walk down the hall and wait 20 minutes to have your scan done.
There’s an obvious choice here, but the second wasn’t available in Hettinger, ND, until August. West River Health Services just completed a $3 million project to add an MRI scanner, build an addition to house it and upgrade the furnace.
West River Health Services capital campaign received a boost from electric cooperatives. Slope Electric Cooperative, a Class C member of Basin Electric headquartered in New England, ND, applied for Basin Electric’s member matching program. Slope Electric gave $100,000 for the project over five years, and Basin Electric matched that donation.
