Dale Johnson, Dakota Gasification Company vice president and plant manager, hosted members of the Minot (ND) Air Force Base (MAFB), as well as Minot leaders, during a Verendrye Electric VIP Power Supply tour at the Great Plains Synfuels Plant the week of Sept. 7. The group included six of the highest-ranking officers at the MAFB and the 91st Missile Wing.

Based out of Velva, ND, Verendrye Electric is a Class C member of Basin Electric. Bruce Carlson, Verendrye Electric general manager, said the group appreciated seeing first-hand some of the facilities that make up Basin Electric.

MAFB makes up about 20 percent of Verendrye Electric’s electric load. The base shares territory with Bakken oil development, and tour members learned how Basin Electric provides its members with safe, reliable and affordable electricity.

Basin Electric’s Dave Raatz, vice president of cooperative planning, and Matt Stoltz, transmission services manager, also shared power supply and transmission information with the group while they were at the Synfuels Plant. Watch the video to hear more from Stoltz.
