Basin Electric and BNSF on good terms after settlement

BNSF railway settlementCookies for collaboration. That was the arrangement between several Basin Electric employees and BNSF Railway’s legal team, as the two parties swapped cookie recipes as they neared a settlement regarding a decade-old rate case.

In the rate case, Western Fuels Association and Basin Electric, as the operating agent for the six participants of the Missouri Basin Power Project (MBPP), reached a settlement with BNSF Railway on May 13. The legal dispute with BNSF involved coal shipping rates for the Laramie River Station located near Wheatland, WY.

Swapping cookie recipes isn’t your typical end to a long and drawn-out negotiation.
