The mission of Habitat for Humanity is to provide safe, affordable, decent housing for as many people as possible. Families buy the homes from Habitat after working between 300 – 500 hours of “sweat equity” on their house or other Habitat homes.
As of May 29, Fluharty had raised $1,145. Her goal is to raise $1,500.
“Why ride 500 miles over seven days on a bicycle? For me it’s the belief that every person deserves safe, decent and affordable housing,” Fluharty said. “Participating in the ride not only raises money to build homes, but also raises awareness of the need.”
Fluharty shared that her one-year wedding anniversary happens to fall on July 13 so her husband, former Basin Electric Vice President of Plant Operations Mike Fluharty, plans to ride his motorcycle to Spring Valley, MN, in order to celebrate their anniversary together.
Donations can be made to support Fluharty’s efforts online at www.huterra.com/fundraiser/MarianFluharty. Checks should be made to “Habitat 500” and mailed by June 30 to Fluharty at 2119 Missouri Loop North, Mandan, ND, 58554.
