The balloons, streamers, and posters have all been taken down. The clippers have been stored away and shavees’ hair has even begun to grow back, but Basin Electric is still celebrating this year’s Brave the Shave campaign.
First off, the campaign set some major records. More than $440,000 was raised and more than 360 people went bald, breaking last year’s record of $400,000 and 344 heads shaved. That ranks us number four in the world among St. Baldrick’s events!
Then there’s a few stories that are still making us smile.
You may remember the Highland Acres Elementary team. We’ve done stories on them in the past because of the energy and excitement they have brought to our flagship events. This year, they organized their very own head-shaving event and on March 27, students, teachers and family members gathered to brave the shave. The school raised $867 and 37 people went bald. Watch the video to hear from their gym teacher, Kurt Weinberg, and two little girls who decided to shave.
Also, three Basin Electric employees shared how the campaign has impacted them in the March-April 2015 Basin Today: The Power of Brave the Shave. Read the story to hear from Troy Gunter whose son lost his battle with cancer, but is keeping the faith about finding a cure, Andrea Blowers who went bald and gave her locks to a bride to be, and Chad Edwards who shaved for the eighth year in a row.
