“Shaving my head is nothing compared to what the kids have to go through. If it brings more research to make treating childhood cancers easier on the kids and family, it’s totally worth it,” says Kate Gartner, pediatric oncology nurse and shavee.

Family members of children who are battling cancer, doctors and nurses were among the 26 people who went bald March 6, at Sanford Health’s head-shaving event at the UND Center for Family Medicine Building in Bismarck, ND. Shavees raised more than $20,000 for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation to help fund children’s cancer research. The event was part of Basin Electric’s 2015 Brave the Shave campaign.

Watch hair fly, hear why shavees went bald, and see the smiles that were shared that day in the video: Sanford Health shaves, spreads hope.
