Basin Electric was awarded Jan. 9 for supporting a program that helps people grow in their personal and professional lives.
Representatives from Toastmasters International, a world leader in communication and leadership development, visited Headquarters in Bismarck, ND, to offer the cooperative a plaque for its support of the Missouri Basin Toastmasters club, which has existed for 30 years.
“This has been a very strong club,” says Michele Reed, Toastmasters International district services representative. “Basin Electric is supporting an effort that changes peoples’ lives.”
Often dubbed as a mere speech club, Toastmasters has a much wider focus that includes leadership and listening skills, says club president Gail Keator, a member since 2009.
“I like to see the growth in people,” Keator says. “I like to see the excitement of new members when they join.”
Among the Basin Electric representatives to receive the award were Ellen Holt, vice president of Human Resources, and Mike Eggl, senior vice president of Communications and Administration. They were also accompanied by club officers.
Missouri Basin Toastmasters is an open club, so anyone is welcome to join. The group meets noon at Headquarters the second and fourth Mondays of every month.
