Today, the EPA announced another 45-day extension for comments to be submitted regarding its proposed 111(d) rule, which seeks to regulate carbon dioxide emissions for existing coal-based power plants. The deadline has now moved from October 16 to December 1, 2014.
Following is Basin Electric’s statement:
“We are very grateful for the work of our delegations to facilitate more time to comment on this rule. As drafted, Section 111(d) creates more questions than answers. Having adequate time within that framework to draft meaningful comments and achievable solutions is imperative. While the additional 45 days is indeed helpful, the complexities of this proposed rule may dictate further time and study. Setting energy policy for our nation within this regulatory environment is challenging and certainly not ideal. We continue to reach out to other industry groups and stakeholders to develop a feasible path forward, one that will include flexibility for early action, facilitates multi-state plans and creates a viable path for coal in our future.”
