Journey to joining SPP: Basin Electric’s board decision

Basin Electric’s board of directors has authorized co-op staff to move forward with joining the Southwest Power Pool, a regional transmission organization (RTO). Read Basin Electric approves joining Southwest Power Pool.

Southwest Power PoolThe decision did not come easy, but co-op staff did their due diligence to analyze every option and work with Basin Electric’s members and Integrated System partners, Western Area Power Administration and Heartland Consumers Power District to ensure the best decision would be made.

In the July-August Basin Today, Part 3 of the Journey to joining SPP series, highlights all of the decisions that had to be made in June and July to move forward with pursuing integration in SPP.

On June 9, SPP’s board approved tariff changes making it possible for the Integrated System partners to join the RTO. Heartland’s board approved SPP membership July 8 and Western’s administrator approved SPP membership July 9.
