U.S. Sen. Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND) invited Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Gina McCarthy to Dakota Gasification Company’s Great Plains Synfuels Plant near Beulah, ND, Feb. 28 to hold a listening session on proposed greenhouse gas regulations.
Heitkamp and McCarthy led a roundtable discussion including U.S. Sen. John Hoeven (R-ND), U.S. Rep. Kevin Cramer (R-ND) and more than 15 local utility, union and government representatives.
The most talked about line from the meeting came from McCarthy. “Number one, we have an all-of-the-above strategy. Coal is part of the energy mix today and it will be for decades in the future,” she said.
