Children who are fighting, or have fought, cancer are guests of honor each year at Basin Electric’s Brave the Shave St. Baldrick’s event. At this year’s event on March 14, those honorees were joined by a few knights.
Basin Electric employees Mike Eggl, Tucker Smith and Ted Cash, and Dakota Gasification Company employee Dave Pfliger were honored for shaving their heads in solidarity with children with cancer and raising money to help advance childhood cancer research for at least seven years.
During the event, honorees – with foam swords in hand – knighted the shavees to induct them into the elite group of volunteers known as the Knights of the Bald Table. Watch a video of the ceremony. Fellow knight Chad Edwards of Antelope Valley Station earned his spot at the Bald Table during the Mercer County Brave the Shave event March 13.
During the March 14 knighting ceremony, event co-emcee DJ Arnold of MDU Resources Group read a proclamation:
“Be it known throughout the realm of St. Baldrick’s that certain special volunteers have given seven or more years of their love, time, talent, treasure and sometimes their hair to make lifesaving research possible.
“In recognition, they are henceforth and forever known as members of the most honorable Knights of the Bald Table: Be it known to all that these Knights have earned the esteem and heartfelt gratitude of the entire Kingdom of St Baldrick’s! All hail the Knights of the Bald Table!”
