Basin Electric employees were eager to give this holiday season. All 60 name tags representing local underprivileged children flew off the cooperative’s Sharing Trees this year.
“The names were gone before the first week,” says DesaRae Hogan, Human Resources coordinator.
Hogan and a couple more of Santa’s helpers were busy in the Headquarters lobby Dec. 12, bundling gifts together before they were distributed. Hogan says the gifts went on to the Welcome House in Bismarck, ND, and AID, Inc. Self-help Center & Thrift Shop in Mandan, ND.
For the program, names were attached to tree ornaments in Basin Electric’s Headquarters lobby, as well as in the J-L Building across the street. Ornaments included information about each child that helped givers find the right gifts. Earth-friendly seed paper ornaments were also used this year.
“It’s a great way to give back to the community,” Hogan says. “These children may not have everything that we have. It’s nice to let them know that other people are thinking of them.”
