It’s no secret. The Bakken is booming in the Williston Basin, and the effects of it are being felt throughout the region.

To keep up with the urgent and increasing need for electrical service, Basin Electric’s planning and construction of generation and transmission projects is happening at a rapid pace.

Two of Basin Electric’s projects to help meet those needs currently in progress are natural gas-fueled peaking stations Pioneer Generation Station and Lonesome Creek Station in northwest North Dakota. Pioneer Generation Station’s Unit 1 went commercial on Sept. 4, and Lonesome Creek Station’s Unit 1 went commercial on Dec. 1. Two more 45-megawatt units will be added to each plant site as part of Phase II construction.
