Basin Electric spokesman reflects on final annual meeting

Daryl Hill shows off the gift he received from Joan Dietz at the Great Plains Synfuels Plant. A fellow member of the tours team, Dietz knew of Hill’s fondness for the cookies from the Synfuels Plant cafeteria. This one was made just for him.

Daryl Hill, a familiar Basin Electric face and voice to reporters from around the world, retires today.

This year’s was his final cooperative annual meeting.

Hill joined Basin Electric’s Communications Department in 1978, as a communications specialist coordinating the communications efforts of constructing the Antelope Valley Station near Beulah, ND, a coal-based power plant. His most recent position is manager of media and communications relations.

As Antelope Valley Station was nearing commercial operation in 1984, Hill became the main tour guide for the plant in the early 1980s, while based at Basin Electric’s headquarters in Bismarck, and served in that capacity until the mid-1990s when he became involved with media relations. In May of 2013, Hill conducted his 1,500th tour of the plant.

Hill took a few minutes after his last annual meeting with Basin Electric to reflect on the meeting and his career.
