If anyone ever said a little home improvement can’t bring people together, they probably haven’t met Chad Reisenauer.
Basin Electric’s Rebuilding Together team, which Reisenauer has led for the past three years, was in Mandan, ND, May 10, assisting a couple in need. The Basin Electric group lent a helping hand to Cliff and Clara Stack, who are receiving a revamped bathroom, new roof, new door, and some help with cleaning and yard work.
For the Mandan couple, who have dealt with various health problems and the loss of a son in recent years, the Basin Electric team’s green t-shirts were a reminder of the hope that lies ahead.
“For this to happen, we are just stunned,” Clara says. “We’re trying to wrap our heads around the kindness of this.”
As workers tended to the Stacks’ yard, Cliff watched from a wheelchair a few feet away. A blood clot cost Cliff his right leg, and moving about parts of his house has become a challenge. That’s where the new, accessible bathroom comes in.
When Reisenauer, Basin Electric manager of member support and services, heard Cliff couldn’t enter the bathroom without scraping the walls, and that the bathtub was about to fall through the floor, he knew the cooperative could show its support.
“You donate what you have, and that’s the time and effort,” Reisenauer says of Basin Electric’s Rebuilding Together team, which this year also included Jen Holen, event planner and charitable giving coordinator; Deb Levchak, staff counsel; and Della Mastel, accounting analyst II.
Cliff is thankful Basin Electric stepped in to help, and he is glad that Clara will no longer have to help lift him into the bathroom.
For Reisenauer, the Rebuilding Together project is a prime example of how Basin Electric aims to go above and beyond serving others.
“We’re trying to find things that can benefit the communities,” he says. “We’ve got volunteers. Let’s put them to work.”
