Sheriff loses mustache in Blarney Stone pub

In a flurry of cash and razors, Burleigh County Sheriff Pat Heinert lost the mustache he’d had since May 1973.

The incident took place during the Guns n’ Hoses Brave the Shave St. Baldrick’s event at The Blarney Stone March 12. Watch the video.

Heinert was on the Guns team, along with others from the Burleigh County Sheriff’s Department and the Bismarck Police Department.

“Since I decided I was going to do this about a month ago, I’d been growing it out, letting it thicken up,” Heinert says. “I had it in the back of my mind that I might do something like this. But when it happened, it went so fast.”

Heinert had let some of his teammates know that once his head was shaved, he would offer to shave his mustache if $500 could be raised for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation. “I never thought they’d raise $500. Oh my gosh, I saw twenties flying out of the crowd, I couldn’t believe it,” Heinert says.

He says when he went outside the next morning, he gasped. The temperature was less than 10 degrees.
