Local leaders tour Amber’s Dream

“What do we live for, if not to make life less difficult for each other?”

Claudia Thompson uses this George Eliot quote to explain why she and husband Mark accepted the challenge of helping Amber’s Dream become a reality. The Thompsons were the campaign co-chairs of Amber’s Dream, which was the complete remodel and transformation of the Sanford children’s hospital into a child-centric facility.

The Thompsons spoke to area leaders, including Basin Electric‘s CEO Andrew M. Serri, Feb. 22 before providing a tour of Amber’s Dream.

It’s a project close to Basin Electric. The cooperative was part of the lead donation in 2009 and Amber Des Roches, the inspiration for the renovation, is honored at its annual Brave the Shave – St. Baldrick’s event in March.

The Thompsons and Sanford staff explained how Amber’s Dream has impacted the kind of care children in Bismarck, Mandan and surrounding areas receive. Sanford Health in Bismarck alone currently provides nearly 80 children with ongoing cancer treatments.
