Teachers tour lignite mines, power plants and the Great Plains Synfuels Plant. One of the most popular activities is climbing aboard the massive draglines at the mines.

There’s been an annual event going on in North Dakota for the past 27 years that doesn’t get much press, but has the potential to impact the lives of hundreds of thousands of elementary, junior high and high school students living in North Dakota, Minnesota, South Dakota and Montana. The event you may not have heard about is the Lignite Energy Council’s Teacher Education Seminar.

This four-day seminar invites teachers from the region to experience North Dakota’s lignite industry firsthand – providing one-on-one conversations with top industry representatives, hands-on activities to take back to classrooms and on-site tours of lignite mines, power plants and the nation’s only synthetic natural gas plant.
