When U.S. Sen. Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND) was sworn in Jan. 3, a Basin Electric representative was there to witness it. Mike Eggl, senior vice president of Communications & Administration, says, “This is a very nice time to be in Washington. Everyone is happy, enjoying themselves. It’s a brief window before everyone needs to start debating and get down to business.”
Eggl says Heitkamp mentioned that it was nice to see so many North Dakotans in attendance. “She said, ‘Having all you in the room demonstrates that this is not about me. It’s about working for the people of North Dakota.’” Heitkamp was a Dakota Gasification Company director from 2001 until her resignation in December.
While in D.C., Eggl visited senators and representatives who serve Basin Electric’s service area, including Heitkamp, U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), U.S. Sen. John Thune (R-SD), and U.S. Sen. Jon Tester (D-MT).
The Huffington Post published a profile of Heitkamp, detailing the day she was sworn in. The story goes well beyond the much-talked-about photo Heitkamp and her family took with U.S. Vice President Joe Biden: Heidi Heitkamp sworn in to Senate, awkwardness ensues
