Basin Electric’s Transmission System Maintenance safety coordinator, Lynn Beiswanger, was nominated and selected for the National Safety Council’s Distinguished Service to Safety Award. The award is the highest honor given to an individual safety professional by the National Safety Council (NSC). The award recognizes Beiswanger for his outstanding efforts with the Utilities Division.
Beiswanger received the award Oct. 22 at the 2012 NSC Congress and Expo in Orlando, FL. The award came as a surprise to Beiswanger. “It was a real honor,” he says. “It was very humbling to be recognized for something I really enjoy doing day in and day out.”
Beiswanger explains that safety isn’t just about what you do on the job. “Over the years I have realized that safety follows you home,” he says. “I advocate safety 24/7 and encourage employees to take the training they learn at work home with them. I care about them and just want them to always be safe.”
Six other individuals were awarded at the NSC Congress Expo for their efforts in providing outstanding service of safety and health to the NSC, their own employers, other organizations, and their communities.
“When they announced ‘From the Utilities Division at Basin Electric Power Cooperative,’ and then my name, it was my proudest moment. I was so honored and proud not only to receive recognition as an individual, but on behalf of Basin Electric.”
Beiswanger serves on the Off-The-Job Advisory Panel for the NSC. He previously received the North Dakota Safety Council’s Safety Professional of the Year award in 2009.
