Honoring veterans today and every day

Kelby Hovey Freedom Award 2012

Kelby Hovey, Basin Electric pilot, gives a firsthand account of the Freedom Award ceremony.

Sunday, Nov. 11, was Veterans Day. Today, in observance of that special day, we recognize the sacrifices the men, women and families of this nation’s armed forces make throughout their lives.

Veterans are our fathers, mothers, husbands, wives, friends, neighbors and coworkers. When called to service, they leave behind their families, their homes and their jobs to protect the freedoms we enjoy as Americans.

In September, Basin Electric was recognized in Washington, D.C. by the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve with the Freedom Award. Chief Warrant Officer 2 Kelby Hovey, a Basin Electric pilot, documented the awards celebration. Watch it through her eyes.

Basin Electric received the recognition after being nominated three years in a row by Captain Kimberly Miller, a business analyst. See why she nominated Basin Electric. The cooperative was also nominated in 2011 by Jill Thomas, Dakota Gasification Company warehouse supervisor and a retired guard soldier.

Today and every day, we honor and thank our veterans. You are the reason we are free.
