During Basin Electric’s United Way fundraising campaign, we know “Change Starts Here.”
But what exactly is changing? And who is that change affecting?
We are highlighting Basin Electric employees who have either benefited from or volunteered with agencies supported by United Way within the communities in which we work and live.
These employees’ lives are being changed. These employees are the faces of change.
Shawn Hammes, front desk receptionist at Basin Electric Headquarters in Bismarck, ND, has cerebral palsy and doesn’t drive due to physical challenges it presents. He uses Bis-Man Transit’s services to run errands and get to and from work at Basin Electric.
He says Bis-Man Transit is on pace to give 300,000 rides to people in the community this year.
“Just by donating your United Way dollar, you help one person 300,000 times and that’s an incredible feeling to be able to help people,” Hammes says. “I think supporting the United Way is a great thing … because there’s so many different ways the United Way dollar is used.”
