Basin Electric multi-media specialist II, Steve Crane, has been on the scene of  big events for Basin Electric, taking pictures, for many years.

Crane was at the Deer Creek Station dedication ceremony held Aug. 16. He took hundreds of photos of the celebration. The photos feature not only the power plant, but also many employees, friends, family and neighbors, who gathered to celebrate.  We wanted him to tell us about some of his favorites. Watch the photo essay.

Deer Creek Station is a 300-net megawatt capacity power plant located about 15 miles northeast of Brookings, SD. It is a first in South Dakota and a first for Basin Electric. The $405-million power plant began commercial operation Aug. 1. There are 28 full time employees at the plant.

Crane has also been a guest writer for our blog. Check out his story Through a photographer’s eyes: Laramie River Footsteps, which features his photos and thoughts.
