St. Baldrick’s honoree talks about cancer treatment, bald heads

Kayla Hillestad says a good attitude is what got her through her years of cancer treatment, and it helped get her family through it too.

Hillestad was diagnosed at age 13 with stage four alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma, a muscle cancer, on Sept. 6, 2007. On Nov. 13, 2009, the cancer came back.

The Century High School (Bismarck, ND) senior is in remission today, and proud to be able to say she’s beaten cancer twice. She’s excited to attend Friday’s North Dakota St. Baldrick’s event.

Watch the video to hear her talk about treatment, attitude and St. Baldrick’s.

Take a look at Hillestad’s CaringBridge.com page, too.

Feb. 13, 2012 entry:

“You know, i wasn’t even suppose to see myself graduate, or even see the year 2012. I’m alive, and going to make this another year to remember. Better yet, I’m gunna make it one helluva year(:”
