Central Electric Cooperative’s new facility

Central Electric Cooperative of Mitchell, SD, is getting new digs. The cooperative has outgrown its facility in town and is looking forward more space with more opportunities.

In addition to having more space to operate, the new service center also provides an opportunity to combine facilities with their wholesale power supplier East River Electric Power Cooperative, a Basin Electric Class A member.

Floor drains, electrical wiring, insulation and tubing for the infloor heating system is installed before concrete is poured.

Their new Betts Road Service Center is located on 32 acres south of the Betts Road Exit on I-90 west of Mitchell. The new building covers about 60,000 square feet. About 42,500 square feet will be used for vehicle parking, shop and material storage areas, and 17,500 square feet will be used for office space, a showroom and meeting rooms. The entire building will be heated by a hybrid geothermal heat pump and electric boiler. The office space will be heated and cooled with the same geothermal heating system.

Central Electric is keeping their member-consumers in the loop with photo-filled monthly construction updates. The building is expected to be completed this summer. Congratulations, Central Electric!
