Last big milestone in the Freedom Mine dragline construction project

The last major milestone in the dragline construction project was achieved on July 12. The 640,000-pound boom was lifted for the first time at about 9:30 a.m.

Travis Horning, project manager for The Coteau Properties Company, said the boom was lifted just like it would be during a day of operation — from inside the cab by a dragline operator.

The lift took only seven minutes. The 28-man crew spent the next eight hours connecting the upright boom to the dragline with eight large pins.
