Learn about CO2 capture

As part of the 30th Annual Energy Generation Conference to be
held Jan. 27-29 at the Bismarck (ND) Civic Center, professionals
from across the country will be speaking about issues affecting the
energy industry.

Basin Electric’s own James J. Sheldon, mechanical engineer II, will be presenting at the event.

Keynote speaker, Dr. Roy Spencer, a principal research scientist
at the University of Alabama in Huntsville’s Earth System Science
Center,
will address the topic of climate legislation, which is
becoming a driving force in legislation affecting the industry.

Sheldon and Jim Sorensen, senior research manager at the University
of North Dakota Environmental & Energy Research Center, will
present an environmental session, “CO2 Capture and Sequestration.”

Sheldon said he’ll spend about 30 minutes discussing technologies
available for post-combustion CO2 capture from coal-based power
plants. His presentation will cover the process Basin Electric is using
for the current CO2 capture and sequestration project at Antelope
Valley Station. Aspects of the project that will be discussed include
the technology selection, feasibility study and impacts CO2 capture
and sequestration have on plant operations.

Sorensen will spend the remaining half-hour discussing sequestration
projects in the area and related geological and regulatory issues.
