South Dakota Gov. Dennis Daugaard toured the Great Plains Synfuels Plant and the Freedom Mine May 23.
Daugaard and several members of his staff and South Dakota government viewed the model room at the Synfuels Plant.

The group also got to climb into the bucket and cab of a Freedom Mine dragline. Watch the video.
“I learned a lot about the coal mining operation and the reclamation, which was impressive,” Daugaard said. “It was interesting to be on board the dragline machine, sitting in the cab and watching the operator run the dragline. You forget how relatively small that area is, until we were invited back into the main compartment of the dragline, and you see the big cables running in and out on their respective reels.”
