Basin Electric bowlers play for two causes

The 10th annual Rebuilding Together Bowling Fun Day March 17 brought out hundreds of bowlers, including several teams of Basin Electric employees.

One team was a little unique. Bern Tolosky, procurement operations administrator for Dakota Gas, won the chance to bowl with Basin Electric CEO and General Manager Andrew M. Serri and his family.

For a $15 donation to the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, employees entered to win a trivia contest. The winner and a guest completed Serri’s five-person bowling team, and will be treated to a fine dining experience later on.

Tolosky says he and his wife Judy had a good time. “It’s remarkable to me how many opportunities Basin Electric offers for getting involved in charitable efforts: St. Baldrick’s, Rebuilding Together, United Way, Jeans Day, and more. It’s even more remarkable how enthusiastically and generously Basin’s employees respond,” he says. “Andy and his family have a lot of energy, and we’re looking forward to that fine dining experience with them!”

St. Baldrick’s is the world’s largest volunteer-driven fundraising event for childhood cancer research. The North Dakota St. Baldrick’s event held March 16 raised more than $200,000. Since the event came to North Dakota in 2008, nearly 900 volunteers have shaved their heads in solidarity of children with cancer. In the five events Bismarck-Mandan has hosted, more than $700,000 has been raised for childhood cancer research and fellowships. Rebuilding Together is a nonprofit organization that helps low-income families around the nation by restoring their houses to a safe and healthy living environment for free.
