Basin Electric’s history (Video shown at 50th anniversary celebration)

As complex as the Basin Electric system has become, it was built on a simple cooperative principal: people helping people accomplish a common goal.

At one time, electricity was a city luxury. Rural areas ran on sunlight by day and wind charger batteries by night.

Then in 1935, the new Rural Electrification Administration set in motion a series of events that forever changed rural America.
