A series of tornados hit western Iowa April 9, 2011, smashing a small town and causing widespread damage. Electric transmission lines were knocked down and crews from Basin Electric member Northwest Iowa Power Cooperative at Le Mars, Iowa, immediately were on the scene to rebuild the lines and restore power.
