Longtime Basin Electric Director Wayne Child made a lot of people smile today.
After raising more than $13,000 for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, Child had his head shaved following today’s board meeting. Watch the video.
Child agreed to go under the clippers after telling his wife that people wanted a director to shave their head for this year’s event. The story goes, she told him that he didn’t have the guts! So, he had to prove her wrong.
But Child also has some deeper reasons for supporting St. Baldrick’s.
“I grew up in an era when a lot of children my age, kids, were getting polio and it was devastating to them. Through research, they were able to come up with a vaccine. And hopefully, our contributions through St. Baldrick’s will help them come up with a cure to eliminate cancer,” Child says.
Child represents District 5 – Tri-State G&T.

In all the excitement of yesterday, Child says he didn’t get to add one important point: “These families who have children with cancer, I feel for them. What a terrible thing to go through. … I have grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and if something would happen to them, it would be devastating. If we can come up with a cure or a vaccine through St. Baldrick’s, that would be a good thing.”
Way to go Wayne!
We are proud of you Wayne. What a great cause and what a great guy to contribute to this cause. Rick Gordon
