Basin Electric’s highest award – the Cornerstone Award – has been given to two individuals whose leadership and outstanding service to electric cooperatives has been a “cornerstone” for Basin Electric, its member systems, and the rural Americans they serve.
U.S. Sen. Byron Dorgan (D-N.D.) and Harold “Hub” Thompson, were honored at Basin Electric’s 49th annual meeting held Nov. 3-4 in Bismarck, ND. (Watch for full reporting of the meeting at www.basinelectric.com this week!)

The 2010 Cornerstone Award was designed by North Dakota native Jason Lindell.
In presenting the award to Sen. Dorgan, Ron Harper, Basin Electric general manager and CEO, said during his 30-year career as a North Dakota congressman or senator, Sen. Dorgan was always a staunch supporter of cooperatives.
Thompson has been a director for a Basin Electric member system, Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association, Denver, since 1981, serving as chairman of its board since 1984. In presenting the award, Harper said Thompson has fought for rural electric cooperatives and was a very hands-on leader.
